Week: Week 3

Title: Lecture on dissertation writing

The dissertation is split into 6 chapter

  1. Introduction

  2. Literature review

  3. Research method

  4. Findings

  5. Analysis

  6. Conclusion

reminder from lecturer: don't worry when there is no relevant study of your project, it may be a new field of study that the writer hasn't yet done.

continue the same chapter that we have stopped last week, from identifying the target user, collect relevant research, and read them. The next step that we are going to continue with is to organize and link part.

Organize

  • Highlight the key point while reading

  • ways to organize are through post-it notes/ or any ways that you feel easy to go on with

  • remark on the author name (sure name) and year of publishing as reference/ cite while doing writing

  • take eyes on authors that are keeping appearing on the different journal in the same field, that's mean that author may be a pro in the related field, may search related study through the author ( another research option)

Link

  • there is 3 type of ways to link key points to key point

    • chronologically

      • the easiest way to arrange base on something simple: year of publishing

    • thematically (by topic)

      • evaluative/ explorative

        • based on subtopic (what that commonly agrees)

        • papers that have a contrasting view to the topic

        • researchers who kept appearing (may write about the researcher research)

      • instrumental (method)

        • look at ways collecting data (read journals/news?)

        • sample of questioner

        • type of data focuses on (interview? survey?)

    • mind map

Chapter 2: Literature review is a collection of previous researchers' subject matter. We act as a summary & critical analysis, coordination for the information.
